What a week

1. Me trying out the Topshop lipstick I bought last week. I swear I don't always look that crazed. 2. The street I'll be working on from now on, hello museum! 3. I spent Thursday bowling and generally having fun with my cousin and mum. 4. Matt and I spent the day with my parents in Monmouthshire, there were a lot of bluebells to be found. 5. Symonds Yat. 6. I ended up buying the Protect & Perfect system in Boots on Friday, the creams soak straight into my skin with no greasiness which is a massive win in my book.
Operation Decorate Bedroom went really well yesterday, I even rented out a carpet cleaner so now the carpet is (almost) spotless. One wall needs to be papered and another small area of the room needs to be painted and after that it's all done, it looks so much better already.

Staying youthful

I can't be the only one who likes it when things like that happen can I? I seem to have been in a life long habit of noticing numbers like that, I tend to look at a clock when it's 11:11 or 12:12.

Today has been a pretty good day, my 11 year old cousin spent the day with my mum and I which was quite cool. We all went bowling and to an amusement arcade (where my mum beat me at air hockey but the less said about that the better), we also ate at Bella Italia where the service was so so slow despite there only being four tables full in the restaurant.

It was Matt's first day at work too so it was really odd being without him all day as we've been together every day since the end of November but it's healthy to get a break and I'm looking forward to us both being in work soon as it means we can really crack on in saving for a house deposit.

Tomorrow operation Decorate Bedroom shall start with a trip to B&Q to buy all manner of paints, we're going all out and sanding all the woodwork down (ugh, I hate sanding stuff) and then glossing everything before we can really jazz up the room. None of our bedroom furniture matches which annoys the heck out of me but I'm refusing to buy a new set until we have our own place as I don't want to get things that won't fit in our house so for now I'm going with the mismatched is cool and edgy line. Yeah, I don't buy it either but such is life.

I've been online window shopping this evening, mainly for night creams and eye creams but like any woman I can go slightly off track and end up looking at other things.

I think I did damn well to keep my list to four things. I've been thinking about a night cream for the last few days, I'm currently using E54 in the night which is fine but it is greasy on my skin and really isn't meant to be used as a night cream. As I'm almost 26 I thought that it was about time I put a bit more effort into my skin, I'm naturally young looking thanks to my mother's genes and skin that can be oily, but I think everyone should think about their skin when they start to get older. The night cream and the eye cream come to £40 in total and thanks to the 3 for 2 offer Boots are currently running I could get the lipstick (L'oreal Made For Me Naturals in Cashmere) for free. After my online shop I discovered that £40 for the two creams is a bit of a steal, brands like Estee Lauder are selling one bottle of night serum for £50+ and although No 7 recommend using a serum under the cream I'm not sure exactly how useful it is, plus it's another £19.50.

A trip to Boots may be in the pipe line tomorrow so I can go and scope out the No 7 stand for myself to see what they have to offer, I'm quite excited by the prospect in a sad sort of way.

Good things come to those who wait

This week just keeps getting better!

After getting the job offer on Monday I was in two minds as to whether to go to the interview at the university today but in the end I figured that seeing as it's taken me five years just to get an interview I should at least go for the experience. I got there a bit early and felt nervous as soon as I sat down in reception which is quite unlike me, they were running late so I had to wait around for a while. The first part of my interview was a computer assessment which was ok (although working with Access again was a bit scary) and then the interview. I came out of the interview feeling quite negative, I even called my parents to tell them that I didn't think I'd get it but it was ok because I already had a job.

Just after 3pm today I got a call to say I'd got the job! I think the woman I spoke to was a bit baffled by how calmly I took the news, I was weirdly calm considering I was so excited. So, pending references I'll be starting in three weeks or there abouts. I'm still in a state of shock, the pay is better than the other job, the benefits are fantastic and it's a great place to work.

I applied to study my BA there and didn't even get an interview at the time which was a bit gutting but Swansea was my first choice as I wanted to move away so it's kind of amusing to me that I'll now be working there.

The rest of the afternoon I spent lounging around in the garden with Matt who has decided to start reading Harry Potter again. I'm ever so tempted to put on the latest DVD seeing as the sun has gone in now, I think I'm owed some sort of celebration.

Happy days!

Good news

As promised I've taken a photo of the swatches of the Topshop makeup I bought on Friday.

L-R
Eye crayon in Lazy Days
Lipstick in Show Off
Kohl in Saddle
Of all the things I looked at on the Topshop website the only thing I ended up buying that I had intented to was the kohl, I guess that's the good that comes of trying to keep an open mind. I really like the eye crayon, it's not something I'd wear in the day as it's packed with glitter but it would be great to wear out if you were going easy on the eyes and playing up your lips. The lipstick is a colour that is out of my comfort zone but I'm open to challenging myself so I went with it. It goes on really well but it does dry out my lips within seconds, it needs vaseline or gloss on over the top to stop it feeling uncomfortable. I blotted it when I first wore it and it lasted for hours even with eating and drinking which for £8 is pretty amazing. The kohl goes on smoothly and the colour is good for me as I think black would be too much for my skin tone. All in all I'm really happy with my purchases, I'm not sure I'd buy another of their lipsticks if they're all going to be as drying as this one is but I'd happily buy another of their eye crayons.

After Topshop I trotted off to Superdrug to have a browse of the makeup section, I only came away with one thing but I could have easily bought a lot more. I wish I had taken advantage of the 3 for 2 offer they were running on the L'oreal stand as I saw a lovely lipstick but didn't buy it.

I used it when I got home (I like to play with new make up when I first buy it) and it's great! I wish they did more colour combinations but at the moment there's only one on sale for blue eyes.

On the way home from town I had a phone call telling me that I hadn't been successful for the job interview that I had been to the day before, I'd given an "awesome" interview but I was "too good" for the job. Instead the guy I interviewed with was going to look for a position elsewhere for me as he wanted me on board but in a role where I wouldn't get bored so easily. When I eventually got home Matt gave me the great news that he had been offered a job that he had interviewed for the day before. Such good news!

Yesterday I went for yet another interview not really expecting to hear back about the other possible job from last week. The interview was in a local hospital doing something I've done before so I knew I could do the job. Later in the day I had a call to say that the place last week had managed to find me a position and would I be willing to accept, after explaining that I had been to an interview that day she said she'd call me back. Only minutes after that call I had another one offering me the job following the interview in the morning which I accepted so I finally have a job!! I still have another interview for a university job tomorrow which I'm still going to go to even though right now I don't feel like it but I'm going to push myself to go.

Getting this job offer has led me to browse the internet for work clothes and I've already got my eye on a few things. Ahh, I get to have a big shop soon!

It's gone

Friday's shopping trip was a damn good one. I finally spent the Topshop gift card I'd had since my birthday last July, it went on a lipstick (not any of the ones I'd eyed up on their website either), an eye liner, an eye shadow pencil and two pairs of earrings. I'm going to try and take some photos of swatches tomorrow but I'm really pleased with all of my purchases.

Not quite the weekend

Today has been quite a good day, usually days when I have a job interview aren't great because they can be quite stressful and tiring but the one I went to today left me feeling really positive. It's a month by month contract at a local university through a recruitment agency and if I'm honest, before I got there I wasn't feeling all that great about it because of the pay and lack of proper contract (knowing that if it was a perm position I'd be getting £6k more a year for doing it doesn't help) but the people that interviewed me were really nice and seemed really responsive to what I was saying. I also got to use a Mac computer for the first time ever and I was pretty much in love with it.

I have two more interviews next week, one is in a local hospital for a six month contract but the doors it could open for me if I get it are many. On Wednesday I have an interview which has taken me five years to get, I was so happy when I got the e mail offering me the interview yesterday, I felt like I'd just been offered a great job. I first applied to this place when I left university and up until now my applications have never been detailed enough I'm guessing, their application process is tough and it's really hard to get in there so I'm actually not that confident that I'll actually get the job. I have a horrid feeling that the pressure of it will get to me and I'll balls it up, that's five years worth of pressure on my shoulders.

I'm in such a shopping mood at the moment, it's driving me crazy. Months of not being able to just go nuts are getting to me I suppose, I've not really shopped in over a year. When I got engaged in December 2009 I just seemed to stop spending money unless it was wedding related. I'm going to town tomorrow and have a shopping list, I'm not sure that I'll end up with everything on the list so perhaps I should call it a wish list.

Ohh La La lipstick, Topshop
Live Salon Style Hair Colour in Honey Brown
Kohl in Saddle, Topshop
Green cardigan, Dorothy Perkins
263 brush, MAC
L'oreal Colour Appeal Trio eyeshadow for blue eyes
I'm kind of half undecided about the MAC brush, Benefit do a brush like it for less money and whilst I do like Benefit brushes (their foundation brush is fab) I'm not sure whether to spend the money or find something cheaper.

Fingers crossed that I won't talk myself out of buying anything tomorrow, I've got into such a rut of not spending money that when I have to I have to force the card out of my purse.

Taking the plunge

Following on from my last post I've decided that I'm just going to brave it and spend some, if not all, of my gift card on make up from Topshop. My make up collection is really quite small, I use the same products every day and when I'm going out or dressing up all I do is add eye shadow (one colour, I've not yet got my head around multiple colours and fanciness). My make up bag currently contains:

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation in 100
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Shell 15
Gosh Touch Up Concealer in 2
Benefit's Erase Paste in 2
Bourjois blusher in Rose d'or
Max Factor Masterpiece Max
A sample sized Clinique High Impact Mascara (thanks Glamour)
No 7 eye shadow in Paradise from a limited collection about three years ago
No 7 eye shadow palette in Twilight (which is terrible by the way)
No 7 single eye shadow in Antique Rose
17 single eye shadow in a metallic green/blue colour, no name as it's rubbed off the label
17 single eye shadow in sliver glitter that I've owned since I was 18 and can't find it in me to chuck out
No 7 sample sized single of Tender eye shadow which No 7 no longer produce sadly
L'oreal single eye shadow in Platinum Beige
Silver glitter eye liner, not sure where it's from
Urban Decay Eye shadow potion primer

I also own one Estee Lauder lipstick that I bought for my wedding. I've discovered that I much, much prefer lipstick to lipgloss.

Writing it all down like that makes it look like I have a fair bit but on a day to day basis all I wear is foundation, concealer, mascara and blusher. I very rarely branch out into something that isn't in my comfort zone. This is where I'm hoping spending my gift card will come into play, after finding out that I do actually enjoy wearing lipstick I've decided that I'm going to stop being a wuss and try out some different colours. I have my eye on these ones from Topshop:

Desert £8.00  Ohh La La £8.00  Coy £7.00
All of them are pinky, although I suppose Desert is more of a nude shade. As someone who is very pale with freckles and blue eyes I'm not entirely sure how much a nude shade will suit me to be honest.

What I really love from Topshop's make up range are their nail colours, I don't think there's a single colour I don't like. The only gripe I have is how much the cost versus a brand like Barry M who give you more for your dollar but such is the way with Topshop.

I think I'll be making a trip to town on Friday as at the moment I have a lovely summer cold and I think town during half term would be the end of me if I went tomorrow and on Thursday I have a job interview so perhaps I'll be rewarding myself for getting that job, who knows.

How to spend £25

If you had only £25 to spend in Topshop, what would you buy?

I went in there today fully intending to finally get rid of my gift card on their make up but I pretty much hated everything, I then looked at the rings and spotted a few but I'm worried that because I have such small fingers a big ring will look silly on me. Next Matt and I went upstairs to Topman to see if we could use the card up there but there was nothing he wanted (there were t shirts for £2 though if anyone needs a cheap t shirt).

This card is hanging around my neck and considering I've not been able to really shop for months you'd think I'd be biting at the bit to buy some new pretty things but that's not happening.

I've been thinking about doing a review on Rimmel's Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation, I bought it on Saturday and I'm in love! Doing a review will probably require some decent photos of my face though so I'll have a play around with the camera and see how it goes.
