Orlando Days One to Four

Day One - Animal Kingdom

Our first full day in Orlando led us to Animal Kingdom. We went on the African safari as well as the walking tours in Africa and Asia, they were both great. We were there with Matt's sisters, parents, one of his sister's fiance's and our nephew and niece, this meant it was quite difficult to get to see everything as it's hard to keep everyone happy. It was ridiculously hot and muggy and I got fed up quite quickly. At about 5pm Matt and I decided to leave so we had time to go and get ready before picking up our friends Becca and Henley who were in Orlando on their honeymoon.

As it was Matt's birthday all 11 of us went out for dinner at Logan's, we had a table booked for 7.30 pm but apparently this doesn't matter over here as they'll still make you wait. We should have taken this as a sign of things to come as the rest of the evening was shocking. The customer service was the worst I've ever experienced, both in the US and the UK. At the end of the meal Becca even went and got them to take off the service charge as she didn't think the service warranted being paid for!

Matt's family left before us as they were going to a comedy show. We drove Becca and Henley back to their Disney resort (Old Key West), which I instantly fell in love with. It's gorgeous! After that it was back to our hotel and to bed.

Day Two - Universal Islands of Adventure

Day two started off by picking up Becca and Henley from Downtown Disney...once we could find them. I instantly loved DTD, it's been one of my favourite places so far.

After we found them we headed off to Islands of Adventure and after a quick stop for ice cream we went on Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges where we got soaked, literally head to toe dripping wet. It was brilliant. After there we went on another water ride (it was so hot that we dried within minutes) over at Jurassic Park, I don't know what I was expecting but the last part of the ride took me totally by surprise but I loved it.

I was eagerly anticipating visiting the Harry Potter part of the park, it was the main reason I even wanted to visit Orlando. It was great, the side of Hogwarts is staggering. The ride inside it even more so. It was so so good, I grinned all the way through it. If you're a Harry Potter fan it's a must.

We had a bit of a wander around, Becca and Henley went on the Hulk ride whilst Matt and I watched. The sound of it was scary enough for me.

After that Becca and Henley stayed on in Universal as we didn't have the hopper ticket (thanks to Matt insisting that we wouldn't need one) so we headed back to the hotel with plans to meet them both for dinner. Once we were back at the hotel I ordered some snacks and then promptly fell asleep around 8pm and woke up at 8 am the next day - no going out for dinner!

Day Three - Downtown Disney & Celebration

Day three saw us going to Downtown Disney, we were going to go to Magic Kingdom but we were both too tired to do a park that day. We got to DTD by 10am and it was bliss, it was so quiet! We wandered around the T Rex store where I bought a new pair of sunglasses for less than $20 after my more expensive pair from Boots broke for the second time in three weeks (they're going back when I get home) as well as a pair of quite frankly awesome PJs

The lego store was pretty cool even for grown ups, the statues outside made of lego were fantastic.

The Disney Store was my favourite though, I even got to pose with Cinderella AKA the best Disney princess. We bought a few bits and bobs from that store with plans to go back and get a whole lot more.

We ate lunch at Earl of Sandwich which was pretty good, although very busy by that time.

The Christmas shop was another favourite, I've got my eye on a few things in there. After wandering around for a bit I decided to get a margarita, it then promptly poured down so we had to hide next to the Christmas shop from the rain. It was novel to be out in the warm clutching a cocktail watching it pour down.

After resting for a while back at our hotel we drove off to find Celebration, which is a town created by Disney. When people at home say they want to move to America this is what I think they're thinking of, it's perfect but I think you have to follow a lot of strict rules to live there. Apparently it has a high percentage of ex pats living there, I spotted one Union Jack whilst we were there.

That night we hung out with Matt's family, everyone played cards til mid night after eating pizza at Cicis (my first and only time I'll be eating there).

Day Four - shopping

No pictures of this day as there's not a whole lot of photo taking opportunity when you're shopping, although I may post some pictures of what I bought.

We started out at the Orlando Outlet, which was disappointing. We met Matt's mum and sisters as we were meant to be going bridesmaid dress shopping. They headed off in the direction of the Mall at Millenia where we said we'd meet them, we stopped off at Taco Bell (my guilty pleasure) so I could devour three soft tacos and too much Mountain Dew. After that we went to find the bridal store, after trying on a couple of dresses we settled on one.

Matt and I wanted to do some shopping so after there we left his family and headed off to the mall, which is much better than the outlet. SO much better. After visiting there we toddled off to Bed Bath and Beyond where I picked up the tackiest turkey candle holders that were in the sale, they're going to go on my dining table at Thanksgiving. They're so disgustingly tacky, it's awesome.

That night we ate at Sweet Tomatoes, it was great to eat fresh food! Following that we went back to DTD and met up with Becca and Henley for their last evening before flying back to the UK. I spotted yet more things from the Disney Store that I want, that shop is dangerous. We then drove them to Sonic, which Becca had heard much about from Matt. We all got drinks before going back to their resort for a midnight stroll, I fell even more in love with it.

After saying goodbye to them we got back to our hotel at around 1am, where I fell in to bed to the sound of the air con machine whirring away.
